Amazon.com is planning to introduce a thinner version of its Kindle ebook reader in August. The screen is more responsive and gains a sharper contrast, making the display more paper-like. The Kindle has about 60% of the U.S. market, followed by Sony with 35%.

Color is still “some ways out.” As for touch screen functionality: earlier this year, Amazon bought out a company called Touchco, which specializes in touch-screen technology, so we can safely assume this is also in the works for a future version.
