Getting A New Phone? Think Green!
When you get a new phone, what do you do with your old phone? Don’t throw it away. Recycle — and help the lives of young people. This is the idea behind O2‘s Think Big initiative.
Old phones contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic. In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that Americans discard 125 million phones each year, creating about 65,000 tons of waste.
That is where recycling initiative like O2′s is important. To show it’s serious about this initiative, the company pledges not to take a penny of profit from its recycle scheme. Any money that is made is donated towards its Think Big initiative to help turn around lives of young people across the UK. You don’t even need to be an O2 customer to pitch in — and may even get paid for it. Check with your wireless provider if they have a similar recycling scheme.
