Point & Peek iPhone App for Aussie Househunters
Here’s a grand idea if you are shopping for a house: simply point your iPhone at a property you are interested in and immediately get a profile of it, including number of bedrooms, sale price, auction data, and photos.
Wait a minute! Rewind. Is this a good idea after all? We can see potential pitfalls for illegal use of this app. In fact, anyone can get interior photos, including detailed floor plan, of your house from the outside now. Thieves (and/or pranksters) are rubbing their hands in glee.
Consumer marketing manager Mark Murray of The Commonwealth Bank (which is making this free Property Guide app) admits the app will allow people to look at the interior of a home without the current resident’s knowledge, but defends it as public information.
“The basic premise around all these things is that all this information is publicly available today… we’re just bringing that information in a more convenient format and in the palm of your hand,” he said.

We wonder what happens after a property is sold? Does it get taken off the list so your newly bought house does not continue to figure in the list?
We believe the app is a great idea as long as it does not make readily available (even though it is sometimes public info, Mr. Murray) detailed floor plans and interior photos. I mean, duh!
